Lesson 4: Student Code of Conduct

Attention

A "Code of Conduct" refers to the expectations that an organization, or society, has of your behavior. It is essentially the "Rule Book" for the role of "Student". (Faculty have one too!)

It is assumed that you know the "Code" and agree to abide by it...so it makes sense for you to actually review it's contents!

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this lesson's material, students will be able to:

  • Review the expectations of students as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct
  • Describe the grievance process
  • Identify lines of communication and expectations when interacting at KVCC

Teaching

For this lesson we will be reviewing the KVCC Student Handbook and the Student Code of Conduct as it is made available on the KVCC website.

  • A summary of the Student Code of Conduct is available on the KVCC website
    • Click HERE to download the PDF
  • KVCC also maintains a page for "Policies"
    • Click HERE to go to the KVCC home page. Under the "About" tab you will find a link titled "Policies"

Lesson 4 Discussion

In this discussion I want you to review the sections B, C, and D in the Code of Conduct (online version) that refer to behaviors that will not be tolerated at KVCC (either on campus or online. Discuss any two items that you feel either are important to you in particular because they ensure that you are learning in a the kind of environment that you wish to learn in, or any that you find confusing. We will use this discussion to clarify any application of these policies so we can ensure that we are all on the "same page".

Feel free to discuss and explore situations in which these particular policies and expectations would NOT need to be enforced.

Lesson 4 Quiz

For the first three questions in this quiz, you will need to visit the KVCC Policies website to complete this quiz.

The Portal question should have been part of your SOAR experience.

  2. In a brief essay, summarize your understanding of the college's policies on Class Attendance.
  3. In a brief essay, summarize your understanding of the Academic Grievance Procedure (be sure to cover all three of the areas that are discussed in this section)
