Lesson 1: Introduction to the Course This first lesson is really like using a compas...you are getting your bearings in this online class, finding out where things are, and getting the lay of the land! It is vital that you read all the documents that have been provided in this course to get a feel for all the complexity of this online class. And, I said "complexity", not "complex". It is not DIFFICULT to get around, there is just a lot here so you need to spend some time getting to know it. Sort of like exploring a city instead of a small town! In each of these Lesson Plans you will see this same organization of material...an "Attention Getter" like this one...then a listing of the Learning Outcomes (what I expect you will be able to do when we are done with this lesson plan), the Teaching material for you to review, and finally the Assessment activites that are going to allow you to demonstrate that you GOT the Learning Outcomes. ENJOY! Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this lesson's material, students will be able to:
Teaching In order to complete these first Assessments listed below you are going to have to navigate all over this website. Revew all the documents in the course and familiarize yourself with all the functions of Blackboard. Assessment Lesson 1 Assignment In order to demonstrate the ability to send me a document using the "Drop Box" or Assignment section here is what I want you to do. Write a letter to introducing yourself to me. Please be sure to include your professional goals. Format it like a formal letter, one page. In the Start Here pages there is information about file types...at KVCC MS Word is the preferred word processor program. If you have a different program you should save your files as .RTF or "Rich Text Format" and send them that way. A tutorial on how to use the Assignment Drop Box is in the Start Here pages as well. Successfully sending the document and my ability to open it and read it will result in a 100 score! Lesson 1 Quiz The questions on this quiz are as follows, prepare your answers ahead of time, edit and spell-check, and then copy and paste them in the space provided in the quiz. These instructions will not be repeated.
Lesson 1 Discussion In this discussion I want you to review your experiences with Bb, online learning, and the use of technology in the classroom. We will discuss the pros and cons of this approach prior to getting into the content of the class.
