Reflection: Looking Back and Looking Forward

In a way, this particular courses is the last in the sequence of MHT courses that you need to complete your MHRT/C. Many of you may be taking these classes "out of order" (and that is fine) but this one is not only relevant to the field as an introduction to the vocational aspects of psychiatric rehabilitation, but it also discusses key issues related to employment...including your own employment as you venture out into the field following the completion of your degree.

For this assignment I want you to demonstrate the ability to reflect on both what you KNOW (your past experience and classwork) and what you DON'T KNOW (your future experience and classwork). To do this you will be asked to write a short paper reflecting upon a job advertisment for a Case Manager and reflect upon your past and future experience and classwork.

See the Assessment section below for details.

Assessment

My Position on this Position

Click HERE to download a copy of a real advertisement for a Case Management position. (This particular one has the peculiar quality of asking for more qualifications than you will have at the end of your degree...but you can address those below.)

For this paper I want you to address all the skills this job requires and identify the following for each one:

  • The name of the "skill" or "skill area"
  • Your current comfort level with this skill
    • A description of what you KNOW and a clear identification of what you did to acquire this skill...if it experience then describe the experience, if it is a course, then name the course and how that course helped you learn these things...if you have NO comfort level, then just move on to the third item in the list.
  • Your assessment of further training, schooling, or experience to feel a higher comfort level
    • If necessary...if you feel FULLY comfortble with the skill, then you don't need to include this part.
