General differences between Student Life and Student Services

Student Life & Student Services at KVCC

Here at KVCC we have what we consider to be Student Life amenities and Student Services amenities. Student Life focuses on those departments and employees who work directly with students on a day-to-day basis and often times develop a rapport that lasts longer than what occurs in Student Services. Student Services amenities pertain more to the types of college business that our students need to get done to be able to stay in school. Examples of each are below.

Departments/Services within Student Life
• Marden Center for Student Success (Tutoring, Disability Services)
• TRiO (Student Support Services) • Advising, Career & Transfer
• Student Development
• Early College for ME
• Lunder Library
• Food For Thought Café
Departments/Services within Student Services
• Financial Aid
• Bursar/Cashier Office
• Admissions
• Maintenance
• Academic Affairs/Registrar

Many college students hesitate or delay asking for help for many different reasons. Some may feel the need to prove themselves – either to themselves or to family and friends. Some students feel that needing help admits failure. Some do not recognize that they need help. Some do not know how to advocate for themselves or to go about asking for the help that they need. Still others, however, may not be aware of the all of the help and support that is usually available on campus. Resources are only helpful if students take advantage of them. Encourage your student to locate and use all of the support that his college has to offer.
