Learning Outcomes

  • Identify and clearly state the details of a social issue.
  • Gether information from additional reliable sources related to the issue.
  • Formulate an objective opinion on the issue.
  • Draw conclusions related to multiple perspectives on the issue.

Teaching

The point of this particular assignment is to have you become familiar with and analyze a political discourse.

  • Find a news article or video of a political debate or discussion of a political issue (your article or video must address a political issue and explore multiple sides to the issue)
  • Take notes as on the exploration of the issue.
  • Take notes on the viewpoints and evidence that is presented in your chosen article or video.
  • Conduct some fact-finding research on the issue (make sure you examine all sides of the issue presented in your artivle or video).
  • Evaluate your own thoughts on the issue in light of your personal experience, article/video, and research.
  • Write the paper in accordance with the rubric below.
  • Submit your paper in MS Word or PDF format to the appropriate assignment drop box.
