Teamwork - Acting on Crisis - Online Class Version Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this lesson's material, students will be able to:
Instructions This assignment is a semester-long group project to write, produce, and perform a dramatic play. Individual students will work in groups to develop all aspects of the play including casting, costumes, set design, production, script writing, acting, and performing. Each member will be evaluated based on their individual contributions to the production of the play based on the rubric below. Guidelines for the Play The play itself will also need to focus on team process. The play will need to meet the following criteria:
Group Process and Teamwork Creative interaction between members of the production team (the students in the group) is critical. Assigning roles such as writers, producers, directors, and actors is essential for success. Group process should expect to consider the following issues:
Definitions of Roles While there are many roles involved in producing a play (you can see this when you see the titles at the end of a movie going on and on!) there are assential functional roles that MUST be considered:
Production Process There are going to be steps in this process. Step 1: Production Team Using the Blackbaord Discussion Board titled "Production Team" each member of the group will discuss the different roles (Director, Writers, and Actors) they will play and set the general story line of the movie they want to produce. Once the Director has been selected, all members will need to download the Shotclip App and create an account. The DIRECTOR is responsible for initiating a new project in thier account and inviting the rest of the Crew to join in on that project.
Directors will be primarily responsible for understanding how the app works and for editing the final version of the movie. This does not preclude other members helping the Director with these tasks. Step 2: Script The designated Writers are then going to collaborate in the discussion board titled "Script" discussion board in Blackboard. Writers are going to script all the action and dialogue for each Actor in the movie. Keep in mind that EACH TIME someone talks or acts, that is a separate movie clip that the person is going to have to upload to the project. Just as you might see in a movie, each time an Actor talks the camera focuses on that person. So, the writers have to keep in mind that as they write dialogue they should be mindful of how many different clips each Actor is going to have to create and upload. The Final Script must be posted in the discussion board and should outline the story with the entire story line in "play" format. Here is an example:
It will be important for the Writers to number each line because the Actors will use this code to identify which clip they are uploading. Step 3: Actors Now comes the work. The assigned Actors will use their iPad to record a short movie clip for each line they speak. Each cut needs to be a separate movie so that the Director can put them in order. Individual clips will be uploaded by number and name...so if you were the person playing Sam in the example above you would record clips and upload them using the following names:
This will make it very easy for the Director to put all of the right clips in order. Step 4: Final Editing and Screening After all the clips have been created and uploaded, the Director (and others if they want to meet) will organize all the clips into the correct order (they will be out of order because different actors will upload their clips at different times.) The Director will be responsible to ensure that they video flows as best as possible including taking the opportunity to make edits to the exisitng clips that Actors submit. When the entire movie is done the Director will be responsible to upload the video to their YouTube account and will post the link to the video in the "Screening" discussion board. Teamwork Evalution The second evaluation will focus on individual contributions to the team by each member. This grade will be produced collectively by the members of the team during the formal "Cast Party" which will occur some time after the actual production. The Faculty member will facilitate an open and honest dialogue with all the members of the production team together. Each members individual strengths, weaknesses, and contributions to the process will be discussed and rated. The scoring of this will be "gentle" in order to encourage honest other- and self-evaluation. Evaluations will very much take ROLE into consideration. Each team member will post an MAIN POST that will reflect an evaluation of each other team member's contribution to the project. The single post must include an evaluation of each other member. After everyone has made an MAIN POST, you are all free to comment on each others' perceptions of the process. This discusion will take place in the "Cast Part" Discussion Board for each group. A modified for of the VALUE Rubric for Teamwork will be used to evaluate each members activity in the group. Categories that will be explored include:
Click here to download the form the group will be using to evaluate individual performance. When all is said and done the Faculty will post links to all the videos produced in the class into a shared discussion board titled "Acting on Crisis" Active participation in this discussion board is celebratory and not required.
