Lesson 3 Discussion A Go to www.meganslaw.ca.gov Upon entering the site, and accepting the conditions/terms, do a search by city for Los Angeles. First, view the map that shows the blue dots where the registered sex offenders live. Second, look at the list of offenders. Choose one at random. Read about the convictions and other information. What were your reactions? Please be specific. If you were assigned to work with the individuals described in this case, how might your own biases or prejudices impact your work? Do some research on the concept of "counter-transference" and discuss how that may play a role in your practice as well. Lesson 3 Discussion B Write your thoughts/feelings about the Tedtalks posted to this lesson. Discuss the role that family dynamics, ethnic considerations, spiritual beliefs and social dynamics have on people and families in crisis. Please be aware that this is a public forum, and some of the ideas were significantly graphic and traumatizing. Address any cultural beliefs that you believe you may struggle with? Please indicate whether words may matter- i.e. mutilation v. circumcision- empowerment v. abuse-- how might this matter?
