Teaching

Mental health agencies may receive many calls each day from people seeking services. Sometimes the clients call directly and sometimes other service providers call. It is important to know what information to gather during the initial telephone call and how to document this information.  

This lesson will review the process of completing a typical intake/inquiry form and will address the skill of abbreviated and concise writing style.

Abbreviations and concise writing are key to ensure accurate records.

This assignment has you using three apps: the Photos app already built into your iPad, a free app called SignEasy and the Caseload Free app you added last week.

You will use the video function within the Photos app to take a video of your interaction with your client this week.

Download the free SignEasy app. Set up your profile and set up an electronic signature which you will then be adding to the documents. This app allows you to import documents and add your signature to them. Signing documents is a part of what all case managers are expected to do to validate their work.

Once you select who your client will be you want to enter that information into the app. You want to record the date and time you will be meeting with the client. Also once the meeting is done you need to go back into the app and document any follow up items you need to complete and make a note about the interaction. You will need to finalize the note once you are complete. You will then email a PDF to yourself.

Welcome to Western Psychological & Counseling Services (WPCS)!

For this assessment you are going to play the part of a Case Manager at WPCS. You will locate a person to play the role of a "client". This can be a classmate or a friend or family member from your life. You will complete all of the following forms as if you were conducted a real intake at WPCS. You will record the intake meeting using your iPad video camera which is in the Photos app.

Keep track of this information and these forms as we will be using the information collected during the next few lessons.

Lesson 6 Quiz

Refer to the handout "Abbreviating Your Written Statements on Forms". Following the guidelines and suggestions from the handout, write a summary for each of the two scenarios.  The idea is to write a summary that you would use on a real form.  Be sure to include all of the pertinent information from the scenario in the summary for the client file.

Lesson 6 Assignment

Once the client forms are completed, upload the documents into the SignEasy app. In this app you can build a signature then add that signature to other documents. You can then email the document to yourself (using the share/send button). Save the PDF and include the PDF document in your Blackboard quiz submission. You also need to include a copy (PDF) of the finalized note from the Caseload Free app that you emailed to yourself (see instructions in iPad Integration box above).
