Instructions

Interviewing and Counseling skills involve many of the same skills we use every day with people we know. To be an effectice mental health worker you have to have fairly good conversational skills.

This assignment will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate these skills.

In this particular instance I want you to find a person that you know well...a spouse or a good friend. You are going to use your iPad to record a video of the two of you having a conversation (about 5 minutes long at the most). Position the iPad so that it captures both of you, and place your seats so you are about 45 degrees from each other so I can see both of you.

Record your conversation as a video using the options suggested below.

You will then create a document. Create a table similar to the one in the linked grading rubric below and evaluate your own interpersonal skills as they are demonstrated in your video.

Then...write a brief essay about the experience and how you can apply/improve your interpersonal skills to become a better mental health worker. You will then submit this document to the drop box in Blackboard.

Click here to view the table you will use to evaluate your skills.

There are some choices in terms of how you want to create a recording.
