Lesson 14: Wrap up and Final Reflection

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this lesson's material, students will be able to:

  • Assess their goals at the beginning of the semester and explain how they were successful or not
  • Reflect upon their practicum experience
  • Make a plan for individual growth in early care and education

Teaching

Hopefully by the time you reach this assignment you have completed ALL of your hours, met all of your goals, have a better understanding of observation, reflection and intentionality, successfully begun your philosophy, and last but not least…… made some great connections with children, families and colleagues.

As if that wasn’t enough packed in to one course, there is yet one more thing to do…. A final paper!  This paper doesn’t require extra readings, observations or lessons plans but will require you to DIG DEEP.  I want you to really do some analyzing of who you were when you started and who you are now.  Think about what you have learned and how you have changed.  Let your mind marvel in how much you have grown and are ready for the next step.

It is also that time to provide an evaluation along with a self -eval. Be sure to follow the rubrics to assure a good grade :)

Assessment

These Lesson Plans are "Universal" in that they are used for both our face-to-face and Online course offerings. The instructions for the "Discussions" found in this section are for the Online classes only unless otherwise indicated by your Instructor.

Lesson 14 Assignment

Write a 2-3 page paper addressing the following:

  • The specifics – where you were placed, age groups, how much time and during what times you spend there, etc.
  • Reflect on how the weekly email communication benefitted your practicum experience.
  • What were your first emotions, thoughts and ideas when you first started at your practicum site?  How has this changed over this course?
  • What are the three major insights you came to understand through this process?  Why do you feel those things are important?
  • What are the goals that you set for yourself?  Do you feel satisfied with your goal completion? (Provide how you rated yourself, an explanation and examples for each goal)
  • What are three strengths of yours that were affirmed by your practicum experience?
  • What are three areas you feel you still need to grow in (why?) and how will you remember these for your next early childhood experience?
