Lesson 6: Recording and Submitting Video Attention Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this lesson's material, students will be able to:
Teaching The Problem with Video They might say that a "Picture is work 10,000" words...imagine what a video is worth! While you are at KVCC you may encounter times where you will want to record a video. It might be do do a presentation, or to interview someone, or to demonstrate your skills. Mobile devices of today (phones and tablets) are wonderful tools to record, edit, and upload your videos for the world to see...or for at least your Instructor to see! The Limits of Blackboard This lesson will focus on recording, editing, and uploading your videos to one of two Online services: YouTube and Vimeo. The reason why we want you to use these services is because the size of videos is astronomical! This is not like sending a Word document. Video can be multiple gigabytes large. If you have been asked to submit a video for class, you will not want to submit this video directly, as a file to Blackboard. Blackboard's upload features and file size limits can make this a very difficult process. It is much better to do the following basic process:
This way, your Instructor does not have to download your video, they can simply watch it Online. Recording and Editing Video You already have what you need... If you have a modern mobile device such as a smart phone or a tablet, you likely have everything you need to record, edit, and submit video! Your built-in camera is more than up to the task of shooting video. However, shooting video is like taking pictures. There are good practices and not-so-good practices. Lighting, composition, and most importantly, sound are critical factors in the quality of your video (remember...these videos will likely be graded, so you want your best work, right?) Here are two great articles to get you started on shooting great video with your phone or tablet!
Editing Video Now, unless you shot perfect footage right from the start, you will likely want to edit your movie. Editing can enable you to cut our parts of the video, add titles and captions, create intro reel and credits, change the lighting, and even add special effects! Again, the mobile world has got you covered! There are wonderful (mostly free) apps available for both iOS and Android to edit your video. You will have to try them out and learn how to use them, but over time, you will find a comfortable tool and you will be inspired to create great videos! Here are some examples: iOS Apps for Editing and Working with Video (just look up these names in the App Store!)
Android Apps for Editing and Working with Video (just look up these names in the Google Play Store!)

Assessment Lesson 6 Activity Similar to Lesson 0, this Lesson is here as a reference to if and when you are asked to do video for your course work. There is not specific activity expected in this part of the Blackboard 101 course.
