October 2015

  • 10/16/15 - Developed DRAFT Flyer for m-Learning Initiative
  • 10/15/15 - Varied communication with marketing and grant-related staff...concluded that the grant cannot be involved in promoting Apple or iPad...changed the name of the program to "m-Learning in Mental Health: Bulding Technology Skills for the Labor Market"
  • 10/7/15 - Constructed a TIMELINE for specific initiatives in Content and Instructional Practices
    • GOAL 1 - Spring Semester Faculty will research and design specific iPad-centered course activites for their designated classes.
      • Online Sections - Faculty will incorporate at least 5 iPad-centered activities/resources.
      • Face-to-Face Sections - Faculty will incorporate at least 2 iPad-centered activities/resources.
      • With 10 online sections and 5 face-to-face sections, this will produce 60 unique iPad-centered activites/resources.
    • GOAL 2 - For each class, the companion iTunes U course will house the apps that have been selected (the iTunes U course will be for both the online and face-to-face sections.)
    • GOAL 3 - Lesson Plans and Instrucitons will be incorporated into the Standard Online Course Content for each class.
    • GOAL 4 - Language specific to the use of the iPad will be standardized and included in every course syllabus.
    • GOAL 5 - Processes and structure to collect Technology Acceptance, Engagement, and Learning Outcome measures will be standardized.
          • TIMELINE
          • 10/14/15 - Spring schedule and course assignments will be complete. Each Faculty will be sent an email related to their responsibility to incorporate the activities and resources.
          • 10/14/15 - Define minimum expectations for the iPads to be used.
          • 10/16/15 - Student Information Meeting (Faculty and Strategic Planning Team are encouraged to attend)
          • 10/19/15 - Student Information Meeting (Faculty and Strategic Planning Team are encouraged to attend)
          • 10/21/15 - Each Faculty will have contributed at least 1 activity. This activity will be documented in the iTunes U course.
          • 10/22-23/15 - Mark Kavanaugh, Stephen Larochelle, and Kevin Casey attend the Apple event in Mass.
          • 11/13/15 - Faculty have completed their selection of apps/activities and each iTunes U course is updated.
          • 11/19/15 - Faculty and Student Survey standard questions for measuring technology acceptance and engagement will be developed.
          • 11/19/15 - All Special Assignments have been reviewed, updated, and have incorporated the use of the iPad. These will be updated in the Standard Content for each course and each standard Bb course will be udpated.
          • 11/20/15 - Student Information Meeting (Faculty and Strategic Planning Team are encouraged to attend)
            • Brainstorming Agenda
              • Orientation for those who did not go to the first meeting.
              • Create Apple ID.
              • Review individuals' iPads to ensure compliance with minimal expectations.
              • Review the role of the iTunes U courses.
              • Provide examples of the Special Assignments and the use of the iPad.
          • 11/23/15 - Student Information Meeting (Faculty and Strategic Planning Team are encouraged to attend)
          • 12/11/15 - All standard course content and iTunesU content has been updated. For each app/activity:
            • Each iTunes U course will have a dedicated section for the online apps and for the face-to-face apps.
            • Accompanying each app will be written or video tutorials.
            • If the app or activity is specific to a course Lesson Plan, the Lesson Plan will be modified to include specific instructions as to the use of the app and the instructional artifact the student will produce.
            • Each artifact will be graded based on a standard grading rubric.
            • For apps used as reference or for apps used across multiple Lessons or as a general component of the course, specific instrucitons will be included in the course related to these apps. These instructions will be included in a document on the main page of the course above the Course Information folder in Bb.
            • For each app/activity we will construct two brief surveys to measure engagement.
              • Faculty Survey will focus on the success or failure of the app/activity/resource, anecdotal stories, technology acceptance, and a rating of Faculty Engagement.
              • Student Survey will focus on the success or failure of the app/activity/resource, anecdotal stories, technology acceptance, and a rating of Student Engagement.
              • Following each GRADED activity that incorporates an app or the use of the iPad, the data from the grading rubric will be exported for analysis and the measure of Learning Outcomes.

September 2015

  • 9/25/15 - Brainstorming on Content and Instructional Practices with Stephen Larochelle, Wendy St. Pierre, and Mark Kavanaugh
    • Related to "Measuring Success" we need to imbed assessment practices in the course structure.
      • For each app we use the student can identify -
        • How they prepared to use the App (training, video, faculty, tutoring, etc)
        • Technology Acceptance (Ease of Use and Usefullness of Technology) Mark Kavanaugh to prepare this***
        • Measures of engagement by the Student and the Faculty (Wendy St. Pierre to look into these measures)***
  • 9/25/15 - Update on Current Status
    • iTunes U courses created for every course in the MHT program.
    • Structure of the course includes general use apps (the same in each course) and a section for course-specific apps
    • We need language added to each Standard Syllabus***
    • We need to update all the Special Assignments with iPad-centered activities***
    • Faculty workshops to practice using thier apps***
